5 Lessons I Learned In 2022

Starting with…

  1. I read around 41 books in 2022! I read a huge variety ranging from fiction to nonfiction. In those books, I learned about boundaries, I learned I freaking love fantasy, I learned more about the racists institutions and systems in America. And read a lot of beautiful and diverse stories that had love, heartbreak, happiness, sadness and all the life that happens in between. I learned the value of listening to people’s stories and ideas, especially when they come from a different background to myself. We all have something unique to bring to the table, and I learned that that table is big enough for EVERYONE to have a seat. ☺️.

2. I found out what kind of movement and excerise I enjoy doing and created a habit of consistently doing it. At the beginning of 2022, my friend mentioned that she really wanted to try cycling and yoga, but was kind of scared to go alone. I wanted to try those things too, so I said let’s go together! We tried all kinds of new classes like BUTI yoga, restore yoga, and power dance. I learned it’s fun to try new things with a friend, and once you’ve done it (and survived 😅), it’s easier to try new things alone, too.

3. I learned to be comfortable in my own skin and to embrace my unique quirks and not worry so much about what other people may think of me. I learned that we humans like authenticity and can recognize when someone is being genuine or being a phony. And I learned that it’s ok if people DON’T like me… because that doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with me. It’s important to grow as a person, but not to change yourself for others. I learned that the people in my life like me for me, just as I like them as they are.

4. I, along with countless others, really got into plants during 2020. I went a bit crazy, and brought home all kinds of new plant babies. Since then, I have learned that I like pothos, philodendrons and cactus the best. And that sometimes plants die, and it’s totally ok. 😂

5. I decided to only spend time or money on the things I enjoy. I learned that I don’t have to finish a book or movie that I don’t enjoy. I learned that I am better at my job when I focus on the things that I am passionate about.

What were some lessons or new ideas that you learned in 2022? I would love to know!
