Clarifying Shampoo

Let’s talk about clarifying shampoo: What Does It Do, Why You Might Need It, and When To Use It.

What Is It?

Our hair is exposed to various pollutants, hard water minerals, and styling products on a daily basis. Over time, these impurities can accumulate on the hair shaft, leading to dullness, reduced volume, and the hair appearing limp. Clarifying shampoos are specially formulated to provide a deep cleanse that goes beyond regular shampoos, effectively removing all the accumulated build-up and leaving your hair feeling fresh and clean.

Why Do I Need It?

When your curls (or hair in general) appear limp or weighed down despite your regular hair care routine, it’s a clear sign that product build-up and other residues are stifling your strands. A clarifying shampoo can help to restore volume and bounce by removing these unwanted residues.

When and How Often Should I Clarify My Hair?

Remember to use clarifying shampoo in moderation, as overuse can lead to dryness. If you have an effective, weekly shampoo and condition routine using clean products, then I would recommend using a clarifying shampoo about once every 3-4 months. Many times my guests don’t even worry about clarifying their hair at home because I take care of it for them at their appointments! However if you are using products with heavy ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, etc, you might find it beneficial to use a clarifying shampoo every 2-3 months.

With the right balance, a clarifying shampoo can become your secret weapon for maintaining healthy, beautiful curls!
